Rollin’ From Sturgis

Day 6 – Detroit Lakes MN to Manistique MI

Rolling out of Detroit Lakes with a full tank – and dense fog.

I pinned the throttle east, chewing up miles across the endless Midwest tarmac. Until Munising, let’s be honest—this leg was a classic slab slog: long, straight, and mostly uneventful.

There’s a certain Zen to covering ground like this, visor down, engine humming, the world rolling by in shades of farm green and roadside Americana.

But what really stuck with me was the warmth of the folks I met along the way. If you’re on two wheels, expect a thumbs-up, or a tip on a hidden pie shop—they love sharing both stories and sugar.

By the time I hit Munising, I was itching for some real twists and turns—and man, did the ride deliver. Once I managed a detour onto H-58 (Adams Trail), everything changed.

The blues vanished as the road began to dance, winding through the trees with lake views peeking through the mist. The pavement was empty, the shadows stretched long, and it felt like I had the whole ribbon of asphalt to myself. This was pure moto bliss—slicing through the curves, chasing the sunset, grinning inside my helmet. From Van Meer to Grand Marais, it was throttle therapy at its finest—just me, the bike, and the wild beauty of the Upper Peninsula.

That last stretch into Manistique, chasing the golden hour, felt like the day finally woke up and showed off. Sometimes, it’s all about pushing through those flat miles for the reward that comes when the road finally gets good.

A cool one on the porch, all good. Let tomorrow come.
